SURF'S UP
Hey, so as previously mentioned we have a song on a surf compilation tape that our buddy Matt has put out, he bloody loves summer. We're allowed to be on it because 2 of us live by the sea and Murphy recently went on an actual surfing holiday. Plus, we all think summer is great. It's a cover of a song by The Surf Trio called, "Fun in the Summer" NOT the Barracudas song "Summer Fun". It's about quitting your job and then going and partying with sun-tanned girls and dancing to surfing bands. OBVIOUSLY.
You can buy it through this sentence.
Next week we're going to have the pleasure of hanging with summer-king Matt at a gig we're playing at the Nest on Stoke Newington Road with Visions of Trees and Chad Valley, it's going to be a pretty chilled out evening... If anyone has a bass amp we could borrow for the night let us know because none of the other bands use guitars, drums or bass for when they're playing, i think they use samplers and vocals though so i'm sorted.

PLANET SOUNDS
A
1. DELTA CAPS
2. PICTURES OF CATS
3. DEAL CASTLE
4. EUROZONE
5. MILD HORSES
B
7. DREAMLANDS
The A side of this tape is a live recording we did with Rich Smith for our friend Phil Chokeword and his rather excellent podcast waaaaaay back in February, (i know TWO members of Gordon Gano's Army in one room?!) I think it was after our 5th show we'd ever played on our mammoth 4 day tour of South-West England. For a lack of anywhere better to stay we slept in a line on benches in the pub we'd played the night before. Waking up, feeling great, approximately 5 minutes before we were supposed to be at our audio date. The intro was a one-way conversation Reza recorded at said pub, of a local "wacky guy" who got himself kicked out and started a fight outside... Just so you know. The recording was notable for 2 things - the incredible tone you can get from a line 6 guitar amp just by turning up the "insane" setting; a room mic going through a constant tape echo will not see much light of day in the final mix. Three of the songs have and will appear in other forms and formats but 2 of them probably won't. The B-side is Pines covering Thee Headaches and Boon covering the Magic Lanterns.
We made the tapes, hand-dubbed, stamped and sealed with love. There are 100 in existence... Get them by coming to see us play or sending £4 to huxleyboon@gmail.com via the medium of paypal.
If you run a distro, wholesale and trades are available. Please get in touch.

I've been thinking good, good things about you
Infobullets.
1. We have a couple of shows coming up this weekend...
Saturday the 9th - London @ The Stag's Head, Dalston
Sunday the 10th - Brighton @ The Cowley Club
2. "MAD MIND" is currently sold out from us and from Suplex. There is talk of printing more, although not until Matt has put out his "Endless Bummer" surf compilation tape. Which, being the dudes that we are, features us doing a cover of The Surf Trio's "Fun in the Summer". It's totally incredible.
3. Here are some photos, courtesy of Owen Richards, from the release of the "MAD MIND" tape which was great, so great in fact we're currently planning another party at the Hanover Centre in December. This is to co-incide with a number of things, possibly including the release of our 2nd 7" "LISTS" on the Sex is Disgusting recording label. THE PHOTOS -
4. There aren't that many copies of the "YOUTH" 7" left. Just so you know...

FOUNDING MEMBER

Sauna Youth are a four piece from The South, who have been around for about a year now, making a heavily-Ramones-influenced racket. It's great stuff. Recently, we had a chat with founding member Lindsay about what the band are up to, and where they're heading.
Where are you all from, and how did you get together?
We're all from the South of England. We met by chance in a health spa where we all happened to be working, except Murphy, who was a customer.
There were only 15 copies of your tape 'Distractions', were they handmade? Are you an artsy band?
They were handmade. I, Lindsay, selected the tracks and mixed it all together. Richard dubbed the tapes and made the artwork. Does that make us artsy?
It does a bit! Are tapes and such the way forward, do you think? A bit cheaper to make than vinyl, but more interesting the a CD or download?
A big factor for me about tapes is the nostalgia element. I mean, the first album I owned was Michael Jackson 'Bad' on tape. I also like the immediacy of the format - you can get something out there really quick and, of course yeah, it's way cheaper than vinyl. It was cool when you used to find those really long strands of discarded tape on the street. An interesting project I read about was this where the artist respools that tape, plays it back and releases the results.
For those who won't have heard you yet, how would you describe your music?
Someone said it was like Minor Threat covering Wire. This is interesting because as any cool punk will tell you, MT covered '12 X U' by Wire pretty successfully. In fact, so successfully that when I saw Wire at ATP a couple of years ago they played 12 X U in the style of the Minor Threat cover version, like really fast and aggressively. So, are people implying with that comparison that we sound like a band covering itself? I'm going to say, yeah okay.
I tell people we sound like the Ramones.
A lot of the influences you've named on your MySpace are quite vintage (Ramones, Undertones etc) - is that a result of being inspired by them during your youth, or do you just find recent bands a uninspiring?
I don't think it's a question of finding recent bands uninspiring, I think it's more that we specifically wanted to be in a band that uses that Ramones drumbeat for the majority of the time. I'm kind of obsesssed with it, unfortunately for our part-time model drummer Reza.
If Sauna Youth had a mission statement, what would it be?
Sorry / You're Welcome.
Do you have any releases or interesting projects in the works?
We have a new mixtape coming up, a new 7" and a 12" LP. I would also like to write a musical.
And finally: What other up and coming bands should we be checking out?
Twisted, Endless War, Fair Ohs, Love Triangle. Blogs are cool.
