BEST BAND

STATIC SHOCK GIG VOL 27.5 PRESENTS
In order to help out our friends from The #1's, we're co-hosting this show next week. It's fairly short notice, so any help getting the word out would be great!
SATELLITES OF LOVE
Alumni of many groups (including Facel Vega, The Sceptres, Mock Heroic and No) from the last decade, hailing from around the southern parts of the UK, including Essex, Norwich and South Wales, Satellites make unforgivably loud and dissonant punk that's arresting and inventive, flipping out to occasionally reveal a twisted, dark underbelly. Following a long tradition of outsider hardcore songwriting (cf. Against, Moss Icon and Articles of Faith) their recent cassettes and now 7" single on Milk records has cemented their place as the best punk band in London.

The latest offshoot from Dublin's mighty Crowd Control is The #1's, but unlike the crushing hardcore one may expect, this is definitely a departure. Taking infulence from classic releases from the likes of Good Vibrations and Rip Off Records, this is catchy and memborable pop influcened punk that will leave anyone into the likes of Protex, Starjets or The Tinopeners stoked.

Also hailing from Dublin, and on tour with The #1's, September Girls are an all girl band who play catchy fuzzy garage pop. They put out an impressive demo last year, and although there are a hundred and one bands doing this style right now, the songs definitely stand out.

ICE CREAM

Hey punks,

How's things? yeah, yeah, I know... aren't we all? tough time of year I guess. What's that? Oh I know! crazy how many people have birthdays this time of year... selfish really, all frugality goes out the window. I guess essentially the idea is that if everyone spends more money then shops stay open, people keep their jobs and then they have money to spend in shops, which then stay open and the owners give more jobs out, which means people can spend more money in bars then the people that work at those bars and shops can fund whatever sideline they have be it artist, musician, dancer, poet, writer, journalist WHATEVER which we consume and it makes us feel like life isn't just one brutal, grinding day after another, we celebrate our lives full of creativity and music, in bars manned by our peers, spending money, celebrating the fact we're surrounded by artists, that make livings from the bars and shops we shop in...

So, anyway I think i subtly masked my intention of persuading you that you should be giving us money

THERE ARE 2 WAYS YOU CAN GIVE US MONEY

One is to go here - http://saunayouth.bandcamp.com and download anything you want that we've put out (bar 2 tapes and a surf song) and 'pay what you like'. To be honest I really thought this wouldn't work AT ALL, but i've been pleasantly surprised that people have been paying. The winner so far is Megan though, Thanks Megan. If it's any incentive to get value for money and show we've really put the effort in I remastered pretty much everything so it's all relatively the same volume and some of the earlier stuff I brightened up a bit as I've learnt a little bit more about recording, etc since then. Interesting no? I also wrote up all the associated relevant information so you can drown in words as well as audio. Wonderful.

The other is to come to this show -

You Are Invited To Expand Your Total Self

THIS ONE'S FOR THE CREW presents...

SAUNA YOUTH -
One of the best punk bands in the UK at the moment. Disjointed, awkward weirdo garage played by disjointed, awkward weirdo punks. New LP is imminent, the previous 7"s are all top drawer. The real deal.

FOOTBALL, ETC -
90's throwbacks from Austin, Texas. Sad, meandering emo for fans of Mineral / Rainer Maria / Empire! Empire!. The 45rpm LP on strictly no capital letters / Count Your Lucky Stars is an absolute gem. Listen to it here:

YOUR NEIGHBOUR THE LIAR -
Scotland's saddest. More 90's emo nostalgia for fans of The Promise Ring / Yaphet Kotto / Texas Is The Reason.

SLEEP COMMITTEE -
[aka the danny barnes experience] First show for new Brighton indie / punk lot.

8pm
Sat 7th Jan 2012
